Second Motion Records is an independent label based out of Carrboro, NC.   The label started in May 2008 in neighboring town, Chapel Hill, NC after 7 years as General Manager / Head of A&R with Yep Roc Records & Redeye Distribution working with such artists as: Paul Weller, Public Enemy, The Supersuckers, Martin Sexton, Liam Finn, Robyn Hitchcock, Pernice Brothers, John Doe (of X) and Bell X1.  Second Motion Records initially started under the wing of Eleven Thirty Records who released albums by Concrete Blonde, AJ Croce, Tanya Donnelly, The Gourds, Hothouse Flowers, Tommy Keene and others.   For two years Second Motion was briefly based in East Lansing, MI before moving operations back to their native Carrboro.

Prior to the above, Second Motion has guided the careers of bands such as Athenaeum (Atlantic Records), Hobex (London Records) and Collapsis (Universal). 

Second Motion Records is owned by Second Motion Entertainment which is also an artist management company (Emm Gryner, Adam Franklin, The Walls, New Model Army) as well as owner/publisher of the music on-line and print magazine, Blurt Magazine & On-line. .
